Many people make a major mistake by not including an interior designer when renovating their kitchen. If you choose not hire a designer full time for the project, at least hire them hourly to consult on this all important project. Interior Designers will be well versed on all the new and up and coming kitchen designs. They will be able to explain the many reasons why cabinet prices vary from manufacture to manufacture. The main differences have to do with a durable finish, an important factor considering the abuse a kitchen receives, the interior of the cabinets, drawer construction, and hinges. These items may not seem important initially, but considering the longevity of a kitchen, is a very important factor.
Door style, unless completely custom in design, do not vary as much in price. Remember you will have this kitchen for a very long time, so I recommend going the extra mile as you will be far happier in the long run. Appliques, crown moldings, full fixed side pane, and under counter lighting all add a tremendous look and resale value. Extra drawer space is always recommended, as well as "pot" drawers.
"Pot" drawers resemble drawer fronts, but when fully extended are actually pull out shelves in which those larger pots, that usually sit in the far back of a cabinet any very inaccessible, are easily reached. The extra is far better for "real" storage because most kitchen items are not as bulky as the larger pots, ans again are far easier to access. Another great interior addition to your kitchen are dividers. These dividers help with storing larger serving platters and cutting boards.
If your kitchen is to accommodate a breakfast bar with an overhang, size and height are extremely important, considering bar stools come only in certain heights. Bar height bars stools will be for a bar height of 42". Counter height bar stools will for a height of 36". Give at least a 10" overhang of your counter top for maximum comfort.
